The Purple Emerald Lounge Bar

The Purple Emerald is a lounge bar that has been recognised as an institution in Melbourne's bar scene. Having called Flinders Lane its home for about sixteen-odd years, the Purple Emerald has relocated its funk and soul-loving ways to Northcote.

Not much has changed or been lost in the Purple Emerald’s big move which is a relief. There’s still a casual, open feel to the space. There’s still European and Asian inspired tapas. And of course, there’s still a whole lot of live funk and soul music, and decadent vintage decor. One new addition worth noting, is an outdoor decking area, in which one can make full use of rare sunny days with a beer in hand and with tunes in the air. The Purple Emerald declares itself the place to be “for those who appreciate a little acid in their jazz” - they’re not wrong. The vibe here is rather infectious, what with the music pumping on weekends and with friends in tow.
