TOWN HALL HERITAGE
The main hall of this building was formerly the Wesley Church, built by Singleton and Pitman, and opened in 1922. It was purchased by the Town of Claremont in 1981 and then renovated and extended.
The first recorded use of the name ‘Claremont’ was on 5 May 1883 and to celebrate the centenary of that event, the Town Hall was officially opened by his excellency Rear Admiral Sir Richard Trowbridge K.C.V.O.L.K., St. J., on 6 May 1983 in the presence of his worship the Mayor of Claremont, Mr B.H. Houston JP and 150 guests representing organisations and people of the community.
