Hewett Community Function Centre

The centre is part of a joint venture between the Church of Christ and Light Regional Council, forming part of a community hub in Hewett, north of Gawler. The emphasis of brief was flexibility, with the building functioning mainly as a church and community centre, but also as a convention/function area. Operable walls are used throughout the building to create 30 person spaces, which expand to accommodate 60 people, 120 people, 200 seated at tables, and finally 400 people in audience seating. A function kitchen and bar are situated to serve the spaces in their various configurations, and the potential for outdoor functions is provided for. The external 'H' form of the building provides a light-hearted sense of identity, and the site slopes down to views of the river.
